The seed is white speckled with black and red, on one side only. A nice asymmetry. Dried grains, when cooked, are very sweet. Productive. Summary Note: Level/Niveau : Easy/Facile Black seeded chickpea (Cicer arientinum) from Kabul, Afghanistan grows well in our season. Also known as the Black Garbanzo bean, Kabouli Chickpeas are a highly nutritious packet of protein! Quite easy to grow and can be started at the same time regular garden peas are sown. Plants become bushy, reaching 2-3 ft in height. Small round pods are produced, each containing 1-2 black seeds. Most gardeners grow this species as a dry pulse, however, the 'green stage' of the seed is very good when eaten fresh. Planting Instructions: Chickpeas need a long season so starting plants indoors is recommended at least 5-6 weeks before the last frost date in spring. Sow seeds at 1" depth and line out transplants 6" apart. Thin plants to 12" apart after true leaves have developed. Pois chiche à semences noires de Kabul (Cicer arientinum), Afghanistan. Pousse bien dans notre climat. Aussi connu sous le nom de pois chiches noirs, les pois chiches Kabouli sont un paquet de protéines très nutritif ! It is popular with gourmets because of the sweet taste and delicate texture of its large, red-hearted root. Wide-necked conical carrots end in a rounded tip and average 15cm in length. This is an excellent variety for making soups, freezing and canning. It is also recommended for storage, since its taste becomes sweeter over time. Les Français ont introduit cette variété du patrimoine aux États-Unis vers la fin du 19e siècle où elle a été utilisée pendant plusieurs années comme la carotte standard dans l’industrie de la mise en conserve. Elle est prisée des gourmets en raison du goût sucré et de la texture délicate de sa grosse racine à cœur rouge. Les carottes coniques à large collet se terminent par un bout arrondi et mesurent en moyenne 15 cm de long. It is a semi-bushy and very productive plant that gives fruits from 0.5 to 1 kg. Their cream-colored skin is streaked with dark green and their orange-yellow flesh is firm, sweet and rich in flavor. Cooked, their taste is reminiscent of chestnuts. They keep for a shorter time than the fruits of other varieties of squash. Cette très ancienne variété a été introduite aux É-U en 1894 par le semencier Peter Henderson de New York. Il s’agit d’une plante semi-buissonnante et très productive qui donne des fruits de 0,5 à 1 kg. This variety was found on a seed exchange table at a Seed Festival in Frelighsburg, Quebec, in 2013. It has a name that seems old, and is not listed by seed saving organizations in the Canada or the United States. Limited quantities. VERY RARE. Anyone who can provide us with information on where it comes from would be appreciated as this is one of our best beans! Addendum In November 2016 we found a trace of a Duch Princesse bean in the "New-Zeland Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science /Experimental Agriculture" of March 1978. The origin of the bean named Duch Princess is believed to be Holland. He was also named by the seed company William Damn Seeds who would sell an improved variety from a Duch Princess bean. We find another trace of it in a research center in... Tanzania, in Arusha, (Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT)) in 1972. Haricot nain vert à petites cosses rondes et sucrées. Un délice! Cette variété a été trouvée sur une table d’échange de semences lors d’une Fête des semences à Frelighsburg, Québec, en 2013.
