Mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig sang the Dyerœs Wife to perfection, and tenor James King established a benchmark in his singing of the Emperor. Bass-baritone Walter Berry made a successful Met debut as Barak the Dyer, and Irene Dalis sang the malevolent Nurse.
